You want to make arrangements in your garden? Would you like to plant a slope but above all look for a solution to keep the slope in place, without it crumbling over time? Discover our solutions.

Some precautions must be taken

The following advice concerns gardens with slopes to be vegetated: mounds of earth that we wish to develop and transform into a small flowery mound.

If your slope is placed near your home, if the earth threatens to pour on a habitable part, or if the dimensions of the slope in question can lead to a landslide, prefer to contact a professional, a terrassier or an outdoor landscaping expert: he will be able to advise you according to the nature of your soil, foundation needs or even stormwater drainage system.

Plants

Certain types of vegetation help to stabilize a slope: plants that are generally low, with dense and deep roots, which quickly colonize the terrain proposed to them. This is the case of perennials and grasses that, thanks to their tracing roots, retain the earth, or small shrubs with suckering roots such as rough rose, raspberry or bamboo.

How to put them in the ground? Dig vertically, whatever the degree of slope of your slope then plant the chosen plants. Stabilize the clod then draw a kind of bowl around the plant to retain water and water gently.

Do not hesitate to plant dense vegetation, that is, to bring plants closer to each other more than reason.

Finally, keep in mind that some slopes, when large, do not have the same characteristics between the top and bottom of it: of course, it also depends on the exposure but generally, the top is often drier, less protected from the winds while the base is wetter, richer in minerals. Take into account the choice of your plants and the location you will assign them on the slope.

The planting cover

When the plants are young and not really well implanted in the ground, you can give an extra boost by installing on the slope a so-called planting tarpaulin. These planting tarps, also called mulch canvas, cover the soil and are put in place even before planting your plants.
